Moving can be difficult. The idea of packing up all of your belongings and moving cross country is stressful in itself. When you add in elements such as weather, moving companies and the financial implications, it can become incredibly frustrating. Luckily, we’re here with some helpful moving hacks to make things a bit easier on you and your family. Let’s get started by looking into some tips.
The Closet Hack
If you’re someone who has way too much clothing, clearing out your closet for a move can be overwhelming. However, don’t make the mistake of neatly folding and packing your clothes in suitcases and storage bins. Instead, keep your shirts on the hangers and transport them on a clothing rack or in garbage bags. By doing it this way, when you get to your new home, all you’ll have to do is hang everything up. Trust us, this will save you tons of time and frustration during the moving process.
Follow the Colors
Historically, moving tape is just plain and brown. However, it’s a new day. In order to make things easier for you, use diff color tapes for each room. If a box has red tape, you’ll know it goes in the kitchen. If one has blue tape, you’ll know it’s for your bedroom. Assign yellow tape to your throw pillows and other living room home accents. By doing it this way, you’ll save tons of time and frustration. This is especially helpful if you’re moving into a two story home or condo. The last thing you want to do is waste time going up and down the stairs in search of things that you thought were in other boxes. Be smart and efficient by using diff colored tape for each room.
Pots and Pans
When you pack up your kitchen, it’s natural to toss your pots and pans into a box and label it. But before you do that, find ways to save space and be strategic by filing each one of them with things like spices and condiments. This will only expedite your move and limit the number of boxes that you have. This is a great way to transport dish towels and cook books as well. Basically, anything that’s small enough and has use in the kitchen can be added to the inside of a pot and pan.
Electronics Time
If you’re not the most tech savvy person, this one should help you out a lot. By using your phone to take a picture of the back of TV and computer, you will remember just where certain wires are connected to save you time and worry. If you are switching cable and internet services, do yourself a favor and take a picture of any info on the modem as well that you may need. Taking pictures is a smart way to speed up any relocation. Don’t forget to try this one. You won’t regret it. Read more about how to properly pack electronics for you move.
Lift with Ease
While we highly recommend hiring a professional moving company, sometimes a do it yourself move is in order. This is especially true if you’re making a small move to a studio apartment or a college dorm. However, there is one thing you can do to make carrying boxes easier. If you have trouble gripping some boxes and walking upstairs or throw small doorways, simply use a box cutter to create handles on each box. This works very well and makes things easier.
